Parents, your role is critical
We hope that you will encourage your child to participate. The fair offers a unique opportunity for students to think creatively, work with others and develop innovative solutions. Some classroom time will be spent on the student's projects; however, the majority of the work will be done outside of school.
Students!
Form your team now, and start brainstorming ideas to improve our world. It could make a world of difference! ***Grades 4-6 Students - only teams of two students can attend KIC

Participants can be:
- K-6 students enrolled in Clifton Elementary School
- K-6 students not enrolled in Clifton Elementary but who live within the Clifton Elementary school district
- Team and Individual entries both permitted. Teams may be comprised of students in the same grade or different grades and may be siblings
Participants should:
- Innovate an existing product or invent a new product.
Think about all of the many items you use in your life. Have you ever said, "I wish this item would do something differently,” or “I wish I had a glass that would never spill, a cereal box that would be easy to open, earrings that would never get lost, or a game that was really fun.”
- Use the Creative Problem Solving Process. (This process will be reviewed in school)
This process allows students be creative, conduct diligent research, brainstorm for ideas, and see how the solution evolves throughout the process. Information on the Creative Problem Solving Process is attached.
- Work in a team, if possible.
The creative problem solving process is best experienced in teams of 2-4 participants. It allows the team to brainstorm together, divide the work, and build on each other’s skills. If you need help finding a team, please talk to your child’s teacher, Mrs. Monks, Clifton’s GT Specialist, or a member of our committee. ***Students in grades 4-6 who plan to attend KIC, may work in teams of no more than 2 and both students must be in grades 4-6.
- Attend student workshops during January and February.
Clifton students who are participating in the fair may attend workshops outside of school hours. Schedule and more information to follow. Students can continue to attend the weekly workshops as long as they are making regular progress.
Awards: There will be a standard-based award structure.
- A Gold Standard award for achieving 90-100 points
- A Silver Standard award for achieving 75-89 points
- All participants who meet the point standard will receive an award.
- In addition to the Gold and Silver standards, each project will be individually recognized and each child will be provided positive feedback for their work.
- Cross grade teams will be judged with the rubric of the student in the highest grade level.
